Women’s Basketball Winning Streak Ends at Six

St. Cloud, Minn. – Coming off of an upset victory over nationally-ranked Northern State on Friday night, the St. Cloud State women's basketball team (12-5, 9-4 NSIC) fell by a score of 78-54 to the Dragons of Minnesota State Moorhead (15-3, 12-2 NSIC) at Halenbeck Hall on Saturday, Jan. 20.
St. Cloud State's nationally ranked three-point defense (7th out of 301) was tested early and often throughout the contest by Minnesota State Moorhead. The Dragons gained momentum early in the game after not missing a three-point attempt (4-4) in the first quarter. The Huskies trailed 45-29 going into half-time but did find some energy late in the game to out-score the Dragons in the fourth quarter, 17-13. SCSU did not control a lead in the contest.
The Huskies' offensive efforts were lead by Amanda Christianson and Andrea Thomas, each scoring ten points. Nikki Kilboten totaled seven points and recorded a team-high of six rebounds. Kilboten also had a game-high of four blocks. SCSU recorded six steals and 29 total rebounds against the Dragons.
Minnesota State Moorhead's offense was lead by Kiley Borowicz (17 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists) and Cassidy Thorson (15 points, 5 assists). Borowicz shot 42.8 percent (3-7) from three-point range and 60 percent (6-10) from the field. The Dragons out-rebounded the Huskies 45-29 and had four players who scored in double-figures.
St. Cloud State shot 34.5 percent (20-58) from the field and 29.2 percent (7-24) from three-point range in Saturday night's loss. Mallie Doucette and Caitlyn Peterson each scored six points off of the Huskies' bench.
The Huskies will look to start another winning streak next weekend as they hit the road to Wayne, Nebraska to take on the Wayne State College Wildcats (16-6, 10-4 NSIC) on Friday, Jan. 26 at 6 PM, then travel to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to face the Augustana University Vikings (17-1, 13-1 NSIC) on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 4 PM.
