St Cloud, Minn. - St. Cloud State head volleyball coach Chad Braegelmann sat down recently with 88.1 FM KVSC's sports director Thomas Breach for a preseason interview.
The two talked about the how the first few weeks of practice have gone, the team's upcoming pre-conference trips to California and Michigan, the leadership of the team's three captains, the program's newcomers and the always tough Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

The Huskies will continue some of their preseason scrimmage matches on Saturday, Aug. 26 at Halenbeck Hall. The action begins at 11 a.m. with matches between SCSU and St. Benedict's along with a match between MSU Moorhead and Augsburg. At 12:15 p.m., SCSU and Augsburg will square off along with MSUM and CSB. The day will be completed with 2 p.m. matches between SCSU vs. MSUM and CSB vs. Augsburg. Each round will be three sets.
Admission for the matches on Aug. 26 at SCSU is free.
The SCSU volleyball team begins the 2017 regular season in San Marcos, California on Aug. 31 against Saint Katherine College at 4 p.m. The program continues the California swing by participating in the CSU – San Marcos Tournament with contests against Saint Martin's at noon and Cal State San Marcos at 6 p.m. on Sept. 1. SCSU wraps up the first weekend with matches against Adelphi at 2 p.m. and Fresno Pacific at 4 pm. on Sept. 2. The following weekend the trip is to Michigan for the Michigan Tech Keweenaw Classic from Sept. 8-9. The program is slated to take on Wisconsin Parkside, Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan and Lake Superior.
SCSU went 8-21 last season including a mark of 3-17 in NSIC play. The team fought hard and had four five-set losses last season in the second campaign under coach Bragelmann. This season the program returns senior Nicole Miller, who led the team and ranked third in the conference with 45 service aces in 2016. The team also brings back junior Micah Nier, who ranked third on the squad with her 155 kills and 185.5 points last season.
Located in Central Minnesota along the oak-crowned west bank of the Mississippi River in the city of St. Cloud, Minn., St. Cloud State University sponsors 19 varsity intercollegiate athletic programs. The Huskies compete at the NCAA Division I level in men's hockey (National Collegiate Hockey Conference) and women's hockey (Western Collegiate Hockey Association), while its NCAA Division II programs hold membership in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and the University's nordic ski team competes in the Central Collegiate Ski Association.
