Women’s Basketball Announces 2017-18 Schedule

St. Cloud State plays two home games to start the season
St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State women's basketball program announced its 2017-18 schedule on August 1. The team will start the season on Nov. 10 with a home contest against Valley City State.
The Huskies host a total of 13 games at Halenbeck Hall this season including nine against NSIC opponents. The team also plays 13 road contests.
SCSU opens the schedule by hosting Valley City State on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. The team returns to action the following weekend with a game against Northland College on Nov. 18 at 2 p.m.
The program travels the following weekend for the Ramada Inn Thanksgiving Classic in Topeka, Kansas from Nov. 24-25. The program will take on host institution Washburn University on Nov. 24 and Newman University on Nov. 25.
The team opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play the following weekend with a trip to Minnesota Crookston on Dec. 1 and continues the swing with a contest against Bemidji State the following day, Dec. 2.
SCSU then hosts three-straight conference games from Dec. 8-16. The program takes on Sioux Falls at Halenbeck Hall on Dec. 8 beginning at 6 p.m. Southwest Minnesota State comes to town on Dec. 9 for an 4 p.m. contest on Dec. 9. The Huskies wrap up the home stand with Minnesota Duluth paying a visit on Dec. 16 for a 2 p.m. contest.
The team then has a break for Christmas before coming back to take on Minot State (Dec. 30) and the University of Mary (Dec. 31) on the road before the start of the New Years holiday.

Following road contests against Upper Iowa and Winona State from Jan. 12-13, the program returns to St. Cloud to host Northern State on Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. and MSU Moorhead on Jan. 20 at 4 p.m.
After playing Wayne State and Augustana on the road from Jan. 26-27, SCSU plays four home games in an eight-day period of time. The program begins the stretch hosting Concordia-St. Paul on Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. The team sees Minnesota State on Feb. 3 at 4 p.m.
The team then makes a midweek trip to play against Minnesota Duluth on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 6 pm.
The program wraps up the home season the following weekend with University of Mary and Minot State coming to town. SCSU takes on Mary on Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. and Minot State on Feb. 10 at 4 p.m.
The team finishes up the 2017-18 regular season with road contests against MSU Moorhead on Feb. 16 and Northern State on Feb. 17.
The NSIC/Stanford Health Women's Basketball Tournament starts on Feb. 21 with first round action on campus sites.
The St. Cloud State women's basketball team went 11-16 overall and 9-13 in the NSIC last year.
Among the key returners and starters back are senior guards Andrea Thomas and Amanda Christianson. Christianson averaged 11 points a game last season, while starting all 27 contests. She shot 44 percent from the field and 42.5 percent from three-point range. Christianson ranked fifth in the NSIC in three-point shooting percentage. Thomas sported an 8.3 average last season, while shooting 86 percent from the foul line. She also finished second on the team with her 43 steals. Thomas finished eighth in the NSIC in assists per game (3.6) and 10th in total steals. Also returning is sophomore Brianna Johnson who picked up 5.7 rebounds per game in only 16.3 minutes a contest.
SCSU head coach Lori Fish is entering her 10th season leading the program and 14th season overall as a collegiate head coach. She has an overall record of 194-168. Her 2016-17 squad averaged 72.5 points per game. The team was second in the NSIC in scoring and third in three-point percentage (34.8). The program also placed fourth in the league in assists per game (15.6) and sixth in steals a contest (7.7).
Located in Central Minnesota along the oak-crowned west bank of the Mississippi River in the city of St. Cloud, Minn., St. Cloud State University sponsors 19 varsity intercollegiate athletic programs.
