St. Cloud State’s three seniors will lead the Huskies next season
ST. CLOUD—The St. Cloud State women's hockey team's three-player senior class will lead it through the upcoming 2017-18 season as defender Brittney Anderson has been named team captain with forward Alyssa Erickson and fellow blue liner Emma Turbyville to serve as alternates, head coach Eric Rud announced Wednesday.
Anderson is the first Wisconsin-born captain in program history and the 10th defender to wear the "C" for the Huskies. Anderson, who hails from Hudson, Wis., has led team rearguards in scoring in each of the last two seasons, registering nine points (1+8) last year and 20 (4+16) in 2015-16.
As a high school senior, Anderson captained Hill-Murray girl's hockey to a 2014 Minnesota Class AA championship.
"Our team has picked well choosing Brittney to lead our team next season," Rud said. "She is an impressive student athlete who juggles a difficult major while excelling on the ice in the most difficult league in the country."
"She leads by example and has the respect of our entire team and staff. Our team is in good hands with Brittney leading the way."
Erickson, a Mission, British Colombia native, had a career year in 2016-17, registering a personal best eight goals and 15 points—which ranked second and third on the team, respectively. She was also one of nine Huskies to appear in all 36 of the team's games.
Turbyville also enjoyed breakout individual success this past season, tallying career highs across the board with 35 games played, one goal, four assists, and five points. The Chicago native also ranked second on the team with 54 blocked shots. She scored her first career goal on February 4 in SCSU's 2-2 tie at Ohio State.
"It was no surprise to our staff that these three were picked to be our leadership group next season," Rud said. "These seniors have shown a high level of commitment to making this program better since day one of their freshmen year. They are proud and passionate Huskies who will represent our program with honor."
All three captains-to-be to be were named to the 2016-17 WCHA All-Academic Team and Turbyville is a two-time WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award winner.
