St. Cloud State Swim and Dive wins NSIC Championship

The St. Cloud State University women's swimming and diving team added another trophy to its collection by capturing the 2016-17 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championships in Rochester, Minn. on Feb. 10.
The Huskies topped the field with 1069 points, while Minnesota State Mankato placed second with 867 points. Â Minnesota State Moorhead was third at 734 and Northern State was fourth at 510. Â Augustana (368), Sioux Falls (298) and Mary (258) completed the team scoring.
This marked the third consecutive NSIC title for the Huskies. Â SCSU also won the team title in 2012 and 2013 and returned as the champs this year as the conference resumed competition in women's swimming.
Individually, St. Cloud State's Britin Thomsen received the NSIC DIver of the Year Award and the Huskies' Kayla Deter was selected as the NSIC Diving Coach of the Year.
On the final day of competition, SCSUÂ won two individual titles to help ice the team title. Â Listed below is a summary of the final day results for the Huskies.
In the 1650 freestyle, Lindsey Lewis paced SCSU with a third place finish at 17:48.09, while teammate Kaitlin Heinen placed fifth at 18:01.23.
In the 100 IM, Jordan Fuse was SCSU's top placer with a fourth place time of 1:01.24. The Huskies' Maddy Strong placed seventh with a time of 1:02.92 in the race.
The evening continued with a second place finish in the 100 freestyle by Andrea Bryson, who posted a time of 51.17.  Bridget Opdahl placed third in the event with a time of 51.75 and Chelsea Gehrke was fifth in the race with a time of 52.06.
Annie Hart was the Huskies' top finisher in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:02.89 and Emily Tiedemann was fifth at 2:03.63.
The Huskies moved to the top step on the winner's platform in the 200 breaststroke as Ashley Wilson bested the field with a time of 2:21.44.  Brooke Calvin came in with a time of 2:24.70, which put her in fourth place in the event.
SCSU returned to the top of the winner's platform in the 3M diving event as Britin Thomsen scored a first place finish at 415.15. THe Huskies domination in the event continued as Lonie Anderson placed third with a score of 369.25 and Sam Sell placed fourth at 359.75.
In the final event of the championships, SCSU placed second in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:27.01. The team was comprised of Andreay Bryson, Chelsea Gehrke, Bridget Opdahl and Emily Tiedemann.
SCSU will now await to find out qualifiers for the upcoming 2017 NCAA Division II championships, which will be held in Birmingham, Ala. on March 7-10.
