Second Half Surge Leads Women’s Basketball to 58-52 Win Over Minnesota Crookston

Crookston, Minn. – The St. Cloud State women's basketball team (4-1, 1-0 NSIC) scored 43 points in the second half to surge past Minnesota Crookston (0-5, 0-1 NSIC) on Friday night, Dec. 1, by a 58-52 score at Lysaker Gymnasium.
Senior Andrea Thomas led the team with her 14 points. She also had six rebounds. Fellow senior Amanda Christianson totaled 12 points and six rebounds. Freshman Tori Wortz recorded 10 points and four rebounds. Freshman Nikki Kilboten had four points and four rebounds. Redshirt sophomore Brianna Johnson led the team with nine rebounds and chipped in with eight points. Redshirt freshman Mackenzie Korf led the team with her two assists to go along with five points.
Minnesota Crookston put three players in double figures led by 14 points from Isieoma Odor. Odor also had eight rebounds and three blocks. Micaela Noga recorded 12 points and five steals. Emily Gruber had 12 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Caitlin Michaelis picked up seven points and four assists.
The Huskies won despite only shooting 35.5 percent from the field (22-for-62). The program did shoot 47 percent from the field in the second half when they outscored the Golden Eagles 43-25. The team was 4-for-18 from three-point range (22.2 percent) and 58.8 percent from the free throw line (10-for-17) in the game. Minnesota Crookston shot 40 percent from the field (20-for-50), 21.4 percent from three-point range (6-for-28) and 100 percent from the line (6-for-6). SCSU owned a sizable 45-26 advantage in rebounds and had 16 second chance points in the game.
The team found itself down by 17 points early in the third quarter, but rallied and made the only lead change of the game count as Christianson knocked down a three-point to put SCSU up 51-48 with 3:21 remaining in the game. The Huskies would not relinquish the advantage and built a seven-point lead in the final minute of the contest before settling for the 58-52 victory.
St. Cloud State women's basketball team continues league play and makes the trip to take on Bemidji State on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 4 p.m.
