ST. CLOUD—The St. Cloud State women's hockey team invites Huskies hockey fans to "Pack the HBNHC" for its game on Wednesday, November 22 against in-state rival Bemidji State.
SCSU will face off against the Beavers at 6:07 p.m.
"We are really looking forward to this event," head coach Eric Rud said. "The night before Thanksgiving is a time when families come together and spend time with one another and this is a great event for that."
"It is going to be a great game and we are anticipating great support in our building."
General admission tickets for the game will be just $1. In the giving spirit of the holidays, the Huskies are also hosting a food drive that night and fans who contribute a non-perishable food item for donation on game day will receive free admission.
Food donations will benefit the local food shelf Catholic Charities, which provides food to people faced with missing meals in the St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids, Sartell, St. Augusta and Waite Park communities. SCSU sophomore forward Katie Detert spearheaded the team's partnership with Catholic Charities for Pack the HBNHC night and did so after witnessing firsthand the difference the organization makes for families in need.
Detert and a group of her classmates volunteered at Catholic Charities this semester and helped show families around the facility to pick out the food that they needed.
"With Thanksgiving next week, we want to help the homeless, veterans and single parents in our community get the food they need," Detert said. "A lot of them don't have jobs or are searching for jobs right now, so we wanted to be able to help them put food on the table."
"A lot of food is needed for the families who come in, especially the larger ones, so donations help them a lot."
In addition to the food drive, there will be a women's hockey team poster giveaway and postgame autograph season following the game.
Dollar tickets for the game can be purchased at scsutickets.com or at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center box office on game day. SCSU students with a valid university ID, fans ages 18 and under and men's hockey season ticket holders receive free admission to all women's hockey home games.
