Volleyball Falls in Three To No. 22 Wayne State

Wayne, Neb. – St. Cloud State's volleyball team (16-13, 8-11 NSIC) lost in three sets to No. 22 Wayne State (19-10, 12-7 NSIC) on Friday evening at the Rice Auditorium in Wayne, Neb. The scores were 25-17, 25-19 and 25-21.
Redshirt freshman Abby Templin led the team with her 10 kills and also hit .222. Senior Nicole Miller totaled six kills plus 11 digs. Junior Micah Nier recorded five kills. Senior Becca Gruber totaled six kills. Freshman Maddy Torve led the team with her 20 assists plus had 10 digs. Senior Kayla Crane picked up 14 assists. Sophomore Clara Krenz had 16 digs. Krenz now has 612 digs on the season, which is the second-most in a single season in school history, and is 66 from reaching Andreanna Pieper (2007) for the top spot. Freshman Taylor Olstad had 11 digs plus a service aces. The Huskies had 37 kills, a .126 hitting percentage, 37 assists, 57 digs and three blocks in the match.
Wayne State was led by Katie Stephens nine kills plus two service aces. Alyssa Ballenger recorded eight kills. Megan Gebhardt totaled 31 assists and seven digs. Haley Kauth had a match-high 17 digs and two service aces. Hope Carter totaled 11 digs. WSC ended up with 36 kills, 35 assists, four service aces, 58 digs and four blocks.
Templin led the team in the first set with four kills in the 25-17 loss.
Templin had three more kills in the second set which went WSC's way 25-19.
The third set featured five tied scores and three lead changes with the last one being at eight all. The Wildcats then went on an 11-3 run to take control in the eventual 25-21 victory. Miller led the team with her five kills in the set.
The SCSU volleyball team finishes up the 2017 season with a 2 p.m. road contest against No. 18 Augustana in Sioux Falls on Saturday, Nov. 11.
