Volleyball Falls In Three To No. 9 Northern State

Aberdeen, S.D. – Redshirt freshman Abby Templin recorded a team-high seven kills to lead St. Cloud State's volleyball team (14-10, 6-8 NSIC) in a 3-0 loss to No. 9 Northern State (18-3, 12-2 NSIC) on Friday evening, Oct. 27, at Wachs Arena. The set scores were 25-12, 25-13 and 25-17.
Templin had seven kills and two digs. Senior Becca Gruber recorded six kills and had a .400 hitting percentage. Junior Micah Nier picked up five kills and four block assists. Freshman Maddy Torve had a team-high 18 assists plus five digs. Sophomore Clara Krenz picked up 13 digs. Freshman Taylor Olstad had seven digs and a service ace. The team had 30 kills, a .142 hitting percentage, 29 assists, a service ace and 42 digs.
The Wolves were led by Jenna Reiff's 15 kills and .789 hitting percentage. Laura Snyder also reached double figures with 10 kills. Ashley Rozell had a match-high 34 assists and 15 digs. Jaiden Langlie totaled 12 digs. NSU had 45 kills, a .388 hitting percentage, 40 assists, 53 digs and two services aces in the victory.
The Huskies fell in the first set 25-12. The team trailed by one point early, 7-6, only to see NSU go on a 18-6 run to close the set. Junior Krista Kuglin led the team with her three kills in the opening set.
SCSU dropped a 25-13 set in game two. NSU got off to an 13-6 lead and never looked back in getting the 25-13 victory. Templin had a team-high three kills in the second set.
The third was the team's most competitive set as they lost 25-17. After trailing early, SCSU closed to get to within four, 20-16 on a Gruber kill. NSU closed the set and the match on a 5-1 rally to earn the victory though. Templin and Nier each had three kills in the third set.
The St. Cloud State volleyball keeps the road trip going and travels to MSU Moorhead for a 5 p.m. match on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Nemzek Fieldhouse.
