Volleyball Sweeps Minot State

St. Cloud, Minn. – Junior Micah Nier totaled 12 kills to lead the St. Cloud State volleyball team (14-9, 6-7 NSIC) to a 3-0 victory over Minot State (4-18, 0-13 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 21, at Halenbeck Hall. The set scores were 25-12, 25-16 and 25-16.
Nier's 12 kills came on only 16 swings for a .688 hitting percentage. She also had a service ace and four digs. Freshman Erin Navratil picked up a career-high nine kills with a .412 hitting percentage. She also had five digs and a service ace. Junior Krista Kuglin totaled eight kills with a .389 hitting percentage. Freshman Maddy Torve led the team with her 21 assists. Senior Kayla Crane had 20 helpers, a service ace and five digs. Redshirt freshman Abby Templin and senior Becca Gruber both had six kills. Sophomore Marah Mulso had seven kills and hit .312. Sophomore Clara Krenz totaled a match-high 22 digs plus a service ace. The team had 50 kills, a .374 hitting percentage, 44 assists, five service aces and 39 kills.
Minot State was led by Shelby Spuller's nine kills. Kelsey Dewulf totaled 18 assists. Karli Koza had 16 digs. MSU was limited to 22 kills, a .074 hitting percentage, 21 assists, two service aces and 42 digs.
The first set saw SCSU control the action at 25-12. Templin, Mulso and Nier all had four kills. The team hit an impressive .412 as a team for the set.
The program won the second set, 25-16, with Gruber totaling five kills.
The third set went SCSU way, 25-16, with Nier having six kills. The program hit .410 for the set.
The St. Cloud State volleyball gets on the road next week and travels to Northern State for a 6 p.m. contest on Oct. 27. The program will then take on MSU Moorhead on Oct. 28 at 5 p.m. in Moorhead, Minn.
