St. Cloud State women's hockey announces new recruits for 2016-17

St. Cloud State University women's hockey has announced the addition of four student-athletes to its roster for the upcoming 2016-17 season.   The group includes goaltender Janine Alder (Switzerland), forward Dana Rasmussen (Kasson, Minn.), forward Janna Haeg (Lakeville, Minn./South H.S.) and forward Katie Detert (Rhinelander, Wisc.).

They will join newcomers forward Kayla Friesen (Winnipeg, Man./St. Mary's Academy), forward Brooke Kurdika (Omaha, Neb./Millard North H.S.) and defenseman Rachel Herzog (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray H.S.), who signed letters of intent to play at SCSU earlier this year.

"This year's recruit class will make an immediate impact on our roster," SCSU head coach Eric Rud said. "This group is going to add skill and depth on offense and defense and I look forward to them joining our team in 2016-17."
Here is a look at the four new SCSU recruits...
 Janine Alder, Goaltender

Janine Alder
A resident of Zurich, Switzerland, Alder most recently played goalie for the EV Dielsdorf-Niederhasil/EHC Uzwil (Men's Team) hockey teams. A member of the Swiss women's national team, Alder helped Switzerland win the bronze medal at the Sochi Olympic Games in 2014.Â

She was a silver medalist with the Swiss team at the U18 World Championships and also played for the Swiss U15 National team. Alder is the daughter of Gaby and Rolf Alder. Her brother Kevin Alder is a former forward for the ZSC Lions Zurich Junior's hockey team. Alder's interests include photography, reading, writing and motor bikes.

"St. Cloud State University will bring me to a top level in my hockey and academic career," Alder said. "With its perfect infrastructure, it will be the best environment for accomplishing my sports and academic goals. Open minded, interesting and ambitious people and teammates will be the cherry on top. I am looking forward to becoming a Husky."

Dana Rasmussen, Forward

Dana Rasmussen
A transfer from Ohio State University, Rasmussen is a resident of Kasson, Minn. and a graduate of Dodge County High School.
Over the past three seasons of competitive hockey, Rasmussen has scored 220 goals and 150 assists. A 2015 Ms. Hockey Finalist, Rasmussen gained All-State notice from 2012 to 2015 as a prep player.

She has attended national camps from 2012 to 2014 and participated in the top 40 USA U18 camp in 2014. She is the daughter of Tom and Pam Rasmussen. Along with hockey, Rasmussen enjoys slow-pitch and fast-pitch softball and swimming.

"Great school with a team that has the style of play that I am more used to and that has fun. I'm looking forward to starting my career at SCSU," Rasmussen said.

Coach Rud's Comment: "Dana (Rasmussen) is a prolific point producer and we look for her to continue that trend here at SCSU. Her experience at the collegiate level will certainly help her make a quick transition in 2016-17."

Janna HaegJanna Haeg, Forward
 A resident of Lakeville, Minn. and graduate of Lakeville South High School, Haeg posted 88 goals, 56 assists and 130 points over the past three seasons.Â
A four-time All-Conference award winner at forward, Haeg served as a team captain during her senior season and helped Lakeville South earn state tournament appearances in 2015 and 2016.

In addition to hockey, Haeg was a member of the Lakeville South lacrosse team that finished as the state runner-up. She gained All-State honors in 2014-15 and was part of the state All-Tournament team in lacrosse.

She is the daughter of Joe and Barb Haeg and her older brother John Haeg played college hockey at nearby St. John's University.

"I chose St. Cloud State University because of the amazing facilities and the coaching staff," Haeg said. "They seem very passionate about the game and strive to develop their players to their best potential.  The location of the school is the perfect distance away from home where I feel like I'm not too close, yet not too far.  It was important to me that I was close enough to home for my family to come watch me play.  The fact that I get to play in the WCHA against some of the top players definitely was a factor in my decision making.  I'm very excited to be a Husky. "

Coach Rud's Comment: "Janna (Haeg) comes from an outstanding hockey program at Lakeville South. She has excellent puck handling skills with a knack for putting the puck into the net. Janna will certainly add to our offensive arsenal here at SCSU."

Katie Detert, Forward

Katie Detert
A resident of Rhinelander, Wisc.. and graduate of Rhinelander High School, Detert earned First Team All-State honors three times as a prep player for the Northern Edge squad. A four-time All-Conference pick, Detert was named her conference's player of the year twice in high school.

Detert ranked among the state's top 10 scorers throughout her high school career and is the record holder for point and goals for the Northern Edge team. She scored 126 goals and 62 assists over the last three years. Â

The daughter of Terri and Dave Detert, Katie Detert enjoys outdoor activities, hunting (deer and grouse), fishing, wake boarding, four-wheeling, softball and swimming. She also enjoys watching all sports including baseball, football and hockey.

"The hockey atmosphere is just phenomenal here at St. Cloud," Detert said. "The school definitely has lots of support for the hockey program which is awesome. The location was perfect for me and the beauty of the campus is amazing. I'm excited to come in and work with this high level group of athletes as well as the coaching staff."
