ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State head men's basketball coach Matt Reimer has announced the addition of Creighton University transfer Alex O'Neill to the Huskies roster in 2016-17.
O'Neill, a 6'8" 240 pound forward/center, is a native of Peoria, Ill., and a graduate of Peoria Christian High School. He enrolled and redshirted at Creighton University during the 2015-16 school year. He will have four years of eligibility remaining with the Huskies upon his arrival on campus.
"We are very excited to welcome Alex to St. Cloud State," Reimer stated. "We recruited him very hard a year ago when he ended up going to Creighton. We are glad we will get the chance to work with him over
the next four years. He is a good athlete with excellent hands and his game has grown while at Creighton this past year. We expect him to give us immediate help on the inside both offensively and defensively and are very excited about his future with us."
During the Bluejays 2015 fall overseas trip to Italy, he finished with four points, two blocks shots and a rebound in 12 minutes over the course of three games.
O'Neill, as a senior at Peoria Christian, averaged 13.9 points per game, 9.6 rebounds and 5.0 blocks per game. He helped lead the team to the Regional title game before losing to eventual Class 1A state champion Brimfield. O'Neill was named to the Associated Press Class 1A Honorable Mention All-State and was selected to the IBCA 1A/2A Third-Team Unit. He finished his career as the school's all-time block leader with 258.
