#5 St. Cloud State collects 3-1 win at #17 UMD on Jan. 15

In a classic NCHC showdown, #5 St. Cloud State University (18-5-0, 10-3-0 NCHC) charted a 3-1 victory at #17 Minnesota Duluth (8-8-4, 5-6-2 NCHC) on Friday, Jan. 15 at Amsoil Arena in Duluth, Minn.
In the first period, St. Cloud State opened the scoring with a highlight reel goal by freshman Mikey Eyssimont at 7:32 of the period. His solo dash from the center line dodged two UMD defenders and was capped when he aced UMD goalie Kasimir Kaskisuo to make it 1-0. Kalle Kossila provided the lone assist on the play.
This was Eyssimont's fourth goal of the year and its was Kossila's 19th assist of the year.
The Bulldogs tied the game up at 1-1 with a goal by Dal Decowski at 11:40 of the first period. Adam Johnson and Parker Mackay each had assists on the play for UMD.
SCSU's Kossila took advantage of a power play opportunity to score at 8:40 of the second period. The goal was Kossila's ninth of the season and it was assisted by Joey Benik and Ethan Prow. This was Benik's ninth assist of the season and his 99th career point as a Husky. The point was Prow's 19th assist of the year and it marked the seventh consecutive game that he has charted a point in.
In the third period, SCSU pushed its lead to 3-1 with a goal by Blake Winiecki at 10:21. His goal was assisted by Jacob Benson and Ben Storm. This was Winiecki's sixth goal of the year for the Huskies.
In the contest, UMD outshot the Huskies 29-26 as Charlie Lindgren made 28 saves in the game for SCSU. Kasimir Kaskisuo had 23 saves for UMD in the nets. On the power play, SCSU was 1-5 and the Huskies were an impressive 7-7 on the penalty kill.
The two teams will continue their weekend series in Duluth with a 7:07 p.m. game at the Amsoil Arena. Fans can watch this game live on Fox Sports North Plus and Fox College Sports.
