#7 St. Cloud State men's hockey loses 7-2 match against #6 Omaha

The #7 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (12-4-0, 6-2-0 NCHC) lost a 7-2 decision against #6 Omaha (12-3-1, 4-3-1 NCHC) on Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, MInn.
The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Huskies and it was just the second time this season that the Huskies have lost a game at home. SCSU will now return to action in the NCHC with a pair of road games at Denver on Dec. 11-12. Fans can listen to those games on KCML FM 99.9 (www.lite999.com) with Dan Terhaar making the call from Colorado.
On Dec. 5, the Mavericks controlled the game's tempo from the start as they outshot the Huskies 13-6 in the first period. Jake Guentzel opened the scoring with a goal at 5:18 of the first period to make it 1-0.
In the second period, Omaha posted a power play goal at 3:21 by David Pope and Brian Cooper notched the eventual game winner at 10:30 for Omaha. The Huskies broke the shutout at 11:18 of the second period with a goal by Jimmy Schuldt. He was assisted on his second goal of the season by senior David Morley. The point was Morley's 99th career point at SCSU.
Omaha continued to attack with one more goal in the second period by Ryan Gait at 14:13. In the closing period, Justin Parizek scored on the power play for Omaha to make it 5-1 at 1:49 of the period. Mason Morelli scored at 4:45 of the third period to give Omaha a 6-1 lead before a power play goal by Robby Jackson stopped the surge at 6-2. Jacob Benson and Schuldt each had assist on the play. This was Jackson's third goal of the weekend for the Huskies and his fifth of the season.
Ian Brady completed the Omaha offense with a power play marker at 12:07 that made the end tally 7-2.
In the game, Omaha outshot the Huskies 35-33. SCSU was 1-3 on the power play and Omaha was 3-5 in the game. In the nets, Evan Weninger made 31 saves to gain the win, while Charlie Lindgren suffered the loss with 17 saves and four goals allowed to his credit. Rasmus Reijola played the final 25:47 of the game for the Huskies with 11 saves and three goals allowed.
