St. Cloud State University's Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) is helping raise funds for the Make-A-Wish program this month through its Walkway of Wishes in Halenbeck Hall.
Each year the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and its affilliated schools helps raise money for the Make-A-Wish foundation.  This year, the goal for the fund raising campaign from the NSIC was set between $16,000 and $20,000. In order to help meet this goal, the St. Cloud State SAAC decided to add in another fundraising opportunity to help the NSIC reach this goal.
Each team's SAAC representative was given Make-A-Wish stars.  These stars were to be disseminated out to their teams and sold for $1 a star. As the stars are received, they are being placed on the Walkway of Wishes display near the SCSU Athletic Office in Halenbeck Hall.  The name is the donor is listed on each star sold.
"This is a great way to showcase student-athletes supporting something that is bigger than athletics," Â SAAC president Stephanie Waletzko said. Â "We hope to sell over 1,500 stars."
SCSU STUDENT-ATHLETE FOOD DRIVEÂ
The SCSU Student Athlete Advisory Council is also sponsoring a student-athlete food drive that will continue through Nov. 24.
The student-athlete food drive is done annually to support people that are less fortunate in our community.  The food is being collected at a drop off spot in SCSU's Halenbeck Hall Aquatic Center Swimming and Diving team room from 2pm-6pm Monday-Friday until Tuesday November 24.Â
"As athletes, our community supports us, so this is a way for us to show the community we support them," Waletzko said.  "The food drive taps into the competitive side in us athletes and is a competition between athletic teams to see who can bring in the most food.  Wrestling won last year and it is anybody's game this year."
