Kawalawu and Johnson Head to NCAA Indoor Championships

St. Cloud, Minn. - St. Cloud State senior George Kawalawu and sophomore Ryan Johnson qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships held in Winston-Salem, N.C. on March 14-15. Kawalawu qualified for Nationals in the 60m dash, while Johnson qualified in the weight throw.
Kawalawu earned his recognition in the 60m dash where he also qualified for nationals. His performance at the Ted Nelson Classic on Feb. 8 earned him a time of 6.78 to rank him second in the NSIC. This will be the third time Kawalawu has made it to the national stage in the 60m dash indoor competition. Kawalawu will compete in the 60m dash preliminaries on Friday, March 14 at 4:10 p.m. and will have to post one of the eight fastest times to advance to Championship Saturday.Â
Johnson qualified for nationals in the weight throw to which he earned the honors of All-Central Region. With a national qualifying mark of 64-0.50 for second place in the NSIC Championships on Feb. 28, Johnson is ranked second in the NSIC rankings. His mark is also a new school record, which he previously broke earlier this season with a mark of 63-04.25. The weight throw championship competition will take place starting at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 14.Â
