Men's basketball falls 101-46 to Michigan State in exhibition game

East Lansing, Mich. -- St. Cloud State faced NCAA Division I foe Michigan State University in an exhibition game and the Spartans were impressive in a 101-46 win over the Huskies at the Breslin Center on Friday, Nov. 7.

St. Cloud State had a difficult shooting night making 22.6 percent of their field goals and only two baskets from three-point range. Michigan State, ranked #17 in the Associated Press and USA Today top 25 preseason polls, shot 57.7 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Huskies 54-34.
The Huskies were able to play the Spartans for the second time in three seasons due to the relationship between St. Cloud State senior guard Kevin Levandoski (Appleton, Wis.) and Spartans head coach Tom Izzo. Izzo is Levandoski's uncle.
The game marked the collegiate coaching debut of Huskies head coach Matt Reimer. Reimer was named the 13th coach in school history on March 24 after 17 seasons as an SCSU assistant coach.
Michigan State led 54-21 at half-time.
St. Cloud State will open the regular season Nov. 14-15 at the Las Vegas Tournament. The Huskies will play Lindenwood University on Friday, Nov. 14 at 4 p.m. central time and Emporia State on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 6:15 p.m.
The Huskies home opener is set for Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Game Notes:
Two Huskies, junior guard Jordan Poydras (De Pere, Wis.) and junior transfer guard Eddie Alcantara (New York) led the Huskies with eight points each. Alcantara also equaled the team high with five rebounds.
Levandoski, junior transfer forward Donnell Cegers (Milwaukee, Wis.) and sophomore guard Scottie Stone (Melrose) each had six points.
The top rebounders for the Huskies were Cegers and Stone with five boards each.
Six Spartans scored in double figures, led by Travis Trice with 20 points.
Denzel Valentine posted a triple double. He finished the game with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists
Two Spartans posted double-doubles in the game as Branden Dawson finished with 13 points, ten rebounds and Matt Costello noteced 12 points and ten rebounds. Costello also had a game high three blocked shots.
