Women's Hockey Set to Host #6 North Dakota

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State women's hockey team is finally back at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center after a four-game road stint for a series against #6 North Dakota. The series begins Friday with a 7:07 p.m. start time and will wrap up the series Saturday with a 3:07 p.m. game.
THE RECORD: St. Cloud State comes into this weekend's series against #6 North Dakota holding a 0-4-2 overall record and a 0-3-1 record in the WCHA, which ranks them fifth in the conference.
LAST TIME OUT: St. Cloud rounded out their first road stint of the season last weekend as they traveled to #4/6 Wisconsin. The Huskies were dishearteningly swept by the Badgers 4-1 and 6-0. Friday the Huskies' found themselves down 4-0 before they were able to get on the board scoring at the 8:24 mark of the third period. Senior Molli Mott found the back of the net for St. Cloud scoring the power-play goal unassisted. In goal was junior Julie Friend as she tallied 52 saves. Wisconsin came out in game two taking a 1-0 lead right away in the first period. UW extended their lead in the second scoring three goals for a 4-0 lead. The Huskies had three power-play opportunities in the third but were unable to capitalize being held by Wisconsin's defense. The Badgers sealed a 6-0 victory with just minute's left in the game. In goal was sophomore Katie Fitzgerald recording a total 42 saves.Â

All-Time Series: UND leads the all-time series with the Huskies holding a 21-19-5 record. North Dakota took over the all-time series record as they swept the Huskies in two series last season.Â
Ranked: North Dakota is currently ranked third in the WCHA standings. In national polls UND is ranked #6 in the USCHO poll and in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.
Previous Games: North Dakota recently split with Ohio State, suffering their first loss of the season. UND started the regular season with a non-conference sweep of Lindenwood and kicked off WCHA play against Minnesota Duluth. Against Duluth UND went 1-0-1 and won 1-0 in the shootout.
Leaders: Leading the way for UND so far this season is junior Josefine Jakobsen with nine points (4g, 5a) and is closely followed by freshman Susanna Tapani with eight (2g, 6a). North Dakota returns starting goalie Shelby Amsley-Benzie as she holds their 4-1-1 record on the season with a .880 sv% and a 2.16 GAA.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS: North Dakota has won the last 10 meetings with St. Cloud State. UND has posted shutouts against the Huskies in seven of those games. The most recent meetings between the teams came in St. Cloud on January 25-26. North Dakota took both games from the Huskies winning 6-2 and 3-0 in the series.Â
LEADING THE HUSKIES: Senior forward Molli Mott leads the Huskies with two goals and one assist for a total five points on nine shots. Mott has played in all six games so far for St. Cloud and has recorded seven defensive blocks. Junior goaltender Julie Friend has made four starts in net for the Huskies, posting a 0-2-2 record. Friend has a 2.42 goals-against record and a .939 save percentage. Sophomore goalie Katie Fitzgerald has started two games and posted a 4.51 goals-against average and a .888 save percentage.
