St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State University (SCSU) and Charter (NASDAQ: CHTR) have reached an agreement to provide telecasts of SCSU Husky hockey to Charter customers throughout Minnesota, starting with coverage of Friday's (Oct. 11) season opener versus Bemidji State University. Charter will provide a total of 15 telecasts of SCSU Husky hockey for the 2013-2014 season, all in high definition (HD).
The games can be viewed in HD on Charter channel 823 and will also be available in standard definition on channel 426, live from the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Tonight the puck drops at 7:37 p.m., with the telecast starting at 7:30 p.m.
St. Cloud State will also celebrate the grand re-opening of the Brooks Center and the unveiling of the Huskies 2012-13 WCHA championship banner prior to the start of the game.
Coverage of Husky hockey will be the first school programming produced, as part of an upcoming launch of an exclusive school channel on Charter's network statewide.
"Words cannot express how excited we are to launch a dedicated channel for Husky Athletics and St. Cloud State University, and to showcase the incredible talent and investment of our mass communications department, specifically Husky Productions under the leadership of Derrick Silvestri, TV studio manager and Brian Stanley, Husky Productions executive producer," said Heather Weems, director of athletics. "Our relationship with Charter will provide fans and supporters throughout a large area of Minnesota and the Upper Midwest with extensive access to Husky Hockey, and in time for additional coverage of Husky sports teams. We look forward to delivering top-quality games and events to Husky fans, and to continuing to build the St. Cloud State University brand throughout the region."
Husky Productions will produce 15 regular season hockey games with a staff of 25 mass communications students. Jim Rich, KMSP-TV
sports director and former Husky and NHL player Mark Parrish will be back to provide play-by-play and color analysis of the games.
"Hockey is a part of Minnesota's culture and Charter is pleased to bring the thrill and experience to fans in high-definition," says Melissa Morris, vice president and general manager for Charter's Minnesota-based operations. "We're making continuous investments and upgrades to Charter's network so that we can deliver a dynamic in-home viewing experience for customers through more high-definition programming, video on demand options and innovative mobile applications. This new high-definition channel and agreement with St. Cloud State will bring the action to living rooms across the state."
The university has invested nearly $5 million in television equipment upgrades to enhance its mass communications, production and strategic communications offerings, expand student-learning opportunities and improve brand promotion.
