SCSU Women's Cross Country Places 8th at NSIC Meet

The St. Cloud State women's cross country team placed 8th at the 2012 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championships on Oct. 20. The race was held on the 6K course at Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn.
The Huskies compiled 211 points in the race, while Augustana was the team champion with a low total of 23 points.
SCSU's top finisher was Kassie Vaness, who placed 19th with a solid time of 23:30.5. Teammate Nichelle Rubash placed 32nd overall with a time of 23:55.8 and Lindsay Stassen was 57th at 24:57.7.
The other SCSU runners in the meet of 119 competitors were Jenny Metzler (68th/25:18.2), Lauren Nelson (72nd/25:34.7) and Emily Helwig (100th/27:34.2).
"We had a very good overall effort from all of our athletes today," SCSU coach Eric Hanenberger said. "Everyone had season best or lifetime best times at the meet today. We really put it all out there today and everyone is moving in the right direction. I'm really excited about the upcoming NCAA regional meet. I would also like to thank Gary Wilson from Minnesota and Concordia-St. Paul for putting on a great meet today at the NSIC championships."
The Huskies will continue their season with a trip to the 2012 NCAA Division II regional meet in Joplin, Mo. on Nov. 3. Athletes and teams that qualify out of the regional will then advance to the 2012 NCAA Division II championships on Nov. 17 at the same course in Joplin, Mo.
